旧通岡道路(国道45号線)は米崎町川向から隣町の大船渡市大船渡町丸森までの約8.2kmの区間で、1963年から1973年3月までの10年間は有料道路となっており、米崎町川向には料金所が設置されており、隣には県警の機動隊分駐所があり、白バイが眼を光らせていましたが、1973年以降は、有料道路としては終了されて以来、料金所や機動隊分駐所がなくなり、通岡道路は無料開放になりました。
