万人供養バス停留所の近くに八坂神社参道が有り境内は陸前高田市災害時避難場所にも指定されている所です。祀られている神様は須佐之男命(スサノオノミコト)、祭日は6月15日で「お天王様」として地元では信仰されています。また、この「お天王様」は昔から荒ぶるお神輿として有名です。

参道を清掃している方に聞いたらこの神社は、元亀2年(1571年)頃建立され戦火にも逃れ現在に至っているとの事でした。その間にも神社の裏側が崩れ前側に移築したり建立してから数百年経っている為、内部の改修や基礎部分の改修など現存させようと近隣の方達の苦労が伺える。その清掃していた方の話によると改修等の寄付集めも昨今の景気に左右され間々ならないとも話していました。
八坂神社は、松峰に有る松峰神社とも関わりが深いとも話してくれました。
