石川啄木は、1891年（明治34年）7月、盛岡中学（現・盛岡第一高等学校）の修学旅行で初めて陸前高田を訪れました。当時20歳だった啄木は、高田松原の雄大な景色に深く感銘を受け、旅の思い出を歌に詠んでいます。残念ながら歌碑は長年の風雨に晒されて読むことは叶いませんでしたが、石川啄木自身が白砂清松の高田松原に訪れた足跡としての記録。
Takuboku Ishikawa first visited Rikuzentakata in July 1891 (Meiji 34) during a school trip with Morioka Middle School (now Morioka First High School). At the age of 20, Takuboku was deeply impressed by the majestic scenery of Takata Matsubara and composed poems about his travel memories. Unfortunately, the poetry monument has been exposed to the elements for many years and is no longer readable, but it stands as a record of Takuboku Ishikawa's visit to the beautiful white sand and green pine trees of Takata Matsubara.

In July 1900 (Meiji 33), Takuboku Ishikawa, then a third-year student at Morioka Junior High School, traveled along the Sanriku coast with his classmates under the guidance of their homeroom teacher, Koichiro Tomita. On July 21, after passing through Kesennuma, they took a small boat from Nagabe and landed at Takata Matsubara. They climbed Hyoshiyama and played in the pine grove, captivated by its beauty. This monument was erected in July 1966 (Showa 41) to commemorate the footsteps of this great poet, Takuboku. Excerpt from the explanatory plaque, August 1983 (Showa 58).
