JR大船渡線、通称ドラゴンレールの沼田踏切付近は、私の子供時代の思い出が詰まった場所です。かつてここには大きな沼が広がり、ハゼ釣りやザリガニ捕りに興じたものです。静かな水面に映る空と、釣り糸を垂れる子供たちの姿が日常の風景でした。しかし、時の流れとともにその風景も大きく変わりました。具体的な時期は思い出せませんが、国道45号線（高田バイパス）の工事に伴い、沼は埋め立てられたのではないかと推測しています。あの豊かな自然の遊び場がなくなってしまったのは、少し寂しい気もしますが、時代の変化と共に地域の景観もまた変わるのは仕方のないことかもしれません。その後、沼があった場所には漁網小屋やカネマンの事務所などが移転してきました。今では、あの懐かしい沼の面影はほとんど残っていませんが、踏切の近くを通るたびに、子供の頃の楽しい思い出がよみがえります。
