小友(おとも)駅舎は陸前高田駅と同じく複線式で、上りと下りの列車交換を行っていました。大船渡線は跨線橋が設置されていないので、小友駅も高田方面からの乗降客は一旦線路内に降りてから改札口に向うようになっています。
